Online Accent Reduction Courses
Train Your Team to Speak Clear, Culturally Fluent English. Designed for all languages, accents, or dialects

Clear communication is essential in any workplace and especially critical in customer-facing roles. One of the top frustrations for clients and teams alike is difficult-to-understand speech. Research shows that most people feel uncomfortable asking someone to repeat themselves more than twice. When clarity breaks down, so does trust, leading to miscommunication, lost opportunities, and costly mistakes.
To solve this, we created a comprehensive, self-paced accent reduction and neutralization course designed for speakers of all languages. This online training allows your team members to progress at their own pace, on their own schedule, through an easy-to-use platform.
What Makes Our Accent Reduction Class Unique?
Each lesson features engaging video instruction, repeat-after-me audio drills, hands-on practice exercises, a vibrant group discussion forum (our Communication Hub), and access to live coaching sessions.
With instruction from licensed speech-language pathologist Elizabeth Peterson, M.A., CCC-SLP, author of Accent Reduction 101: Speaking English Closer to the American Cultural Style, this course offers the highest level of expertise and support.
Participants receive weekly motivational emails, self-assessment tools to measure progress, end-of-course quizzes, and a Certificate of Completion for their employee file. This training helps team members speak fluent, confident, and culturally correct English, enhancing communication in meetings, presentations, and daily conversations.
What’s Covered in this Course?
American Intonation: The Foundation for Clear Speech
Most accented speech results from applying melody and rhythm rules from one’s first language. This unit teaches the essential skill of American intonation, using our proprietary Speech Stairs™ Strategy to build fluency and cultural correctness. Team members will eliminate monotone patterns, excessive speed, or forceful delivery and develop a smooth, engaging flow for confident interactions. Within three weeks, many learners experience significant improvements in clarity and self-assurance.
Sound Like a Leader
Your team will learn how to project leadership through speech by mastering advanced intonation and conversational strategy. They’ll eliminate habits that reduce credibility, like up-speak, filler words, or vague vocabulary, and replace them with authoritative language, strategic pauses, and more polished delivery techniques. The course teaches how to sound knowledgeable, confident, and trustworthy.
How to Speak with a Stronger, More Powerful Voice
Many cultures speak from a higher pitch or nasal resonance, which can appear weak or uncertain in American business settings. This section teaches how to access deeper vocal resonance for a strong, professional vocal tone. Participants will understand where to place sound for maximum projection, clarity, and confidence, eliminating weak, thin, or nasal-sounding speech.
Diaphragm Breathing for Speaking Clarity and Comfort
Often, accented speakers who speak too fast or with monotone delivery breathe shallowly from the chest. This section teaches how to breathe from the diaphragm, helping participants manage speaking pace, reduce anxiety, and maintain vocal strength. With proper breath control, speech becomes more fluid, intentional, and impactful.
Pronouncing American Consonant Sounds
While many assume an accent stems from “wrong sounds,” most need to learn just a few, like /th/, which don’t exist in many languages. Others, like /f, v, w, r, p, b/, require more lip and jaw movement than some cultures use. This course provides full instruction on all American consonants, helping team members articulate more clearly, especially in high-stakes communication like presentations or meetings.
Mastering American Vowel Sounds
Clear vowel sounds and oral resonance are key to sounding culturally fluent. This section covers every American vowel, with special emphasis on difficult sounds like vocalic /R/ and /L/. Learners will place sounds correctly in the mouth (not in the nose or throat), resulting in professional, clear, and culturally appropriate English.
Become a Powerhouse Speaker
Once accent habits are reduced, your team will learn how to shine in public speaking. This final unit focuses on presentation delivery, including storytelling techniques, slide organization using modern design principles, handling unexpected questions, and applying body language strategies for confidence and credibility, both in-person and online.
By the End of the Program, Team Members Will Be Able To:
Speak clearly using American intonation, pronunciation, and rhythm
Lead conversations, meetings, and presentations with confidence
Eliminate unclear speech habits and adopt powerful voice techniques
Pronounce all American consonants and vowels accurately
Use strategic breathing and pacing to sound calm and fluent
Deliver memorable presentations with strong body language and storytelling
Build leadership credibility through confident, polished communication

The habits from your first language will be minimized or eliminated. You will notice improvement with clarity and confidence in about three weeks.
By the end, the following will be achieved:
- Speaking English clearly using the Speech Stairs Strategy, the American rule for culturally correct and easy to understand English
- Eliminate the habits that cause unclear English such as sounding monotone, or speaking too fast, forceful or choppy
- Implement three real-world strategies for practicing your new skills at work and in the community
- Apply new strategies for speaking in meetings or giving a presentation clearly
Sound like a Leader: Advanced Intonation for Conversational English
By the end, the following will be achieved:
- Speaking with American intonation at the conversational level for complex conversation such as leading meetings or delivering a high stakes presentation
- Identifying the three types of up-speak/question inflection and utilize strategies to eliminate it (This habit may be cultural but it diminishes leadership persona in American business)
- Replacing minimizing vocabulary with more relevant terminology
- Appling strategic pauses to become a more powerful speaker
- Posing questions to sound more like an authority with your subject
- Appling the “cure” to stop “verbal viruses” from discrediting your message. A bad American speech habit of using filler words such as (um, uh, like, so, etc.)
How to Speak with Your Stronger and More Powerful Voice
You will learn American resonance and how to place speech in the center of your mouth and away from the nasal cavity or the wall of the throat. Communication will sound more professional, clear and culturally correct.
By the end, the following will be achieved:
- Speaking from your stronger and more powerful voice
- Accessing the “power spot” in your voice through several approaches
- Eliminating a voice that sounds weak, too high in pitch, or has too much nasal resonance
- Understanding the three types of American resonance and where to place your speech for successful accent reduction
- Communicating with American oral resonance to have more culturally correct and polished English pronunciation
How to Diaphragm Breathe for More Effective and Powerful Communication
Often accented speakers who come from a language where the speech is mostly monotone or too fast, speak from a shallow chest breath. This can lead to not having enough air to finish a thought or leaving the voice feeling strained at the end of a long conversation. Learning how to speak from a diaphragm breath will give you enough air to finish your thought and be a useful strategy for fast speech. Communicating your valuable points will be more fluid and comfortable from full breaths.
By the end, the following will be achieved:
- Completing the 4-levels on how to achieve diaphragm breathing
- Coordinating diaphragm breathing and talking at the conversational level
- Eliminating short and shallow chest breathing
- Utilizing diaphragm breathing as a strategy for managing speech anxiety
- Increasing vocal power with improved projection
How to Pronounce the American Consonant Sounds
Learn all of the missing or mispronounced sounds from your English. Although it may seem that your accent has a lot of mistakes, having a foreign accent has more to do with incorrect use of American intonation as opposed to missing sounds. Typical accented speakers only need to learn a few sounds such as /th/ since it does not exist in most languages. Sounds that involve lip and jaw movement such as /f, v, w, r, p, b, m/ are often mispronounced since many cultures do not move their lips or jaw enough for what is required for American English. Some cultural groups require help on specific sounds such as /ch or sh/. Regardless of which sounds need support, all American consonants have full video instruction with audio files in this course.
By the end, the following will be achieved:
- Learning how to correctly pronounce all American consonant sounds
- Understanding the common mistakes made with sounds and how to correct each one
- Identifying unique nuances of American English that will further improve clarity
- Applying strategies for pronouncing sounds correctly at the conversational level
How to Pronounce the American Vowel Sounds
Learn all of the American vowel sounds. Understand the differences from front, center and back vowel sounds and how these correlate with American resonance. This course also takes a deep dive into vocalic /R/ and /L/.
Much of what will make vowels better approximate to correct pronunciation is speaking with American oral resonance where sounds are placed in the mouth cavity and not in the lower throat or nasal cavity. This course is very comprehensive with multiple exercises on how to pronounce vowel sounds more clearly and closer to the American style.
By the end, the following will be achieved:
- Learning how to correctly pronounce all American vowel sounds
- Speaking with American oral resonance at the conversational level for culturally correct and professional sounding English
- Understanding how important lip and jaw movements are for correctly pronouncing vowel sounds
- Pronouncing vocalic /R/ and /L/ with improved accuracy
